Pacquiao vs Margarito and news on Mayweather!
Since Manny’s promoter could not sign a deal with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Pacquiao has set his sights on Antonio Margarito. Because Antonio isn’t licensed to fight in the U.S. just yet, details are not finalized. So no word yet on where they will fight but the date is set to be November 13th.
Now what’s so funny about all of this is that Floyd Mayweather, Jr’s adviser came out to say that no negotiations for a fight with Manny ever came about. Floyd allowed a deadline for any fight to be placed last weekend and nothing was ever sent to him or his people. Two days after the deadline passed Mayweather told the press he wasn’t interesting in boxing this year after his fight with Shane Mosley. Top Rank chief Bob Arum was taken by surprise since he claims he’s been in contact with Mayweather’s team for months about a fight with Pacquiao and all that was left to do was sign the contracts. “The thing that’s silly about this is all Floyd had to say from the get-go was, ‘Hey, I’m not interested in fighting this year,’” Arum says “That’s all he had to do.”
I’m not sure who’s running scared from the other but to me it sounds like Mayweather might be. Especially with his admission that he isn’t even thinking of boxing this year. Sounds like he might be making excuses with this “deadline” business. How are you going to say “You have a deadline to get back to me if you want to fight but I’m not really thinking of fighting this year.” Hmmm…I don’t know about all that!
